Buying a Website in Morocco: Real Prices, Pitfalls, and Questions to Ask Before You Sign

"Buying a website" can mean very different things: a ready-made theme filled in with your logo, or a professional site built around your business. The price and the result aren't the same.

At a glance

What you're buying Indicative price What you actually get
Ready-made theme + fill-in 2,000 – 5,000 MAD A basic site, not very differentiated
Professional business site 8,000 – 25,000 MAD A site built for your customers and SEO
E-commerce or more complex site 30,000 MAD and up A complete sales or management tool

Why the rate for building a website varies so much

When one offer costs 2,000 MAD and another 20,000 MAD, it's almost never the same thing being sold. The lower price usually corresponds to an existing theme, just filled in with your logo and text. The higher price corresponds to design work: understanding your customers, structuring the site to convert, and laying SEO foundations.

Pitfalls to know before buying a website

  • The price doesn't include the domain name or hosting: some "cheap" quotes leave out these recurring costs, which then show up as a separate bill.
  • You don't necessarily own the site: with some providers, the site stays on their platform and you can't easily take it with you if you want to switch providers.
  • No maintenance included: an unmaintained site slowly becomes vulnerable and can end up hacked or offline.
  • You can't edit the content yourself: without a content management tool, every small change has to go through the provider, often billed extra.
  • The starting price climbs after signing: some very low offers attract you in, then every "optional" feature pushes the bill up.

Questions to ask before signing

  1. Are the domain name and hosting included, and for how long?
  2. Will I own the site, the code and the domain name?
  3. Will I be able to edit my own text and photos, without a developer?
  4. What does maintenance include, and how much does it cost after the first year?
  5. Is the price fixed, or can it change during the project?
  6. Can you show me sites already delivered in my industry?

Buy cheap, or invest in a professional site?

A site at 2,000 or 3,000 MAD can be enough to exist online in a minimal way. But if the goal is to attract customers, a site built around your goals costs more upfront, and generally pays for itself much faster through the customers it brings in.

FAQ

What's the rate for building a website in Morocco? It ranges from 2,000 MAD for a basic theme to over 100,000 MAD for a complex project. For a standard professional site, expect 8,000–25,000 MAD. See our full pricing guide.

Is it safer to buy a site from an agency or a freelancer? Both are possible. With a freelancer, check who will handle maintenance if they become unavailable. With an agency, you usually get a team and ongoing support.

Can I switch providers after buying? Yes, if you own the domain name, the code and the hosting. Check this before signing — it's what keeps you free to switch later.

Is the listed price the final price? Not always. Explicitly ask whether the domain name, hosting, maintenance and revisions are included in the quoted price.
